4月1日(水)よりMuseum of Imaginary Narrative Arts（MINA）で菅原⽞奨とBIENによる展覧会「PUBLICAD -公共性と広告性を再編集する/Re-editing the Narratives of the Public-」を開催しております。

PUBLICADは、MINAが初めて開催する展覧会です。
ミュージアムをオープンするにあたり最初に注目したのは、その存在を世界に伝える最も象徴的な媒体である「ミュージアムポスター」でした。
ポスターが担う役割を「広告性」と「公共性」のふたつに分解し、グラフィック、スカルプチャー、の２人の作家による作品を通して、アートが”メディア”として果たしうる役割を探ります。

メディアは、特定の情報や視点に触れる機会を増やすことで、社会問題や政治への関心を喚起し、文化を豊かに変容させてきました。
都市そのものをメディアとして捉えるなら、日本の、特に渋谷のまちは、広告によって埋め尽くされていると感じるでしょう。渋谷は、広告と都市が一体化した象徴的な場所として世界に認識されています。

しかし、情報とサービスで溢れる現代社会において、広告は短時間に量産され、スキップされる対象となり、「人の関心を惹きつけるもの」としての役目を果たしにくくなっています。

MINAは、アート作品を「豊かな暮らしに長く寄り添うメディア」として捉えます。
都市の中で日々生まれ、消費され、忘れられていく広告のリズムとは異なる時間軸を持つ作品に触れながら、来場者がそれぞれの“公共”を再考し、想像しなおすための場となることを目指します。

Gensho Sugahara and BIEN will hold an exhibition at the Museum of Imaginary Narrative Arts (MINA), titled “PUBLICAD – Re-editing the Narratives of the Public -”, from Wednesday, April 1.

PUBLICAD is the first exhibition presented by MINA.
When opening the museum, the first thing that caught our attention was the “museum poster,” the most symbolic medium for communicating its existence to the world. By breaking down the role of posters into two aspects—”advertising” and “public service”—we explore the role that art can play as a “medium” through the works of two artists, one specializing in graphics and the other in sculpture.

Media has enriched and transformed culture by increasing opportunities to encounter specific information and perspectives, thereby stimulating interest in social issues and politics.
If we consider cities themselves as media, then Japan, and especially Shibuya, seems to be overflowing with advertising. Shibuya is recognized worldwide as a symbolic place where advertising and the city are integrated.

However, in today’s information and service-saturated society, advertisements are mass-produced in a short amount of time and are often skipped, making it difficult for them to fulfill their role as something that “attracts people’s attention.”

MINA views art as a medium that “accompanies a rich life for a long time.”
By engaging with works that have a different time axis than the rhythm of advertising that is born, consumed, and forgotten every day in the city, we aim to create a space where visitors can reconsider and reimagine their own sense of “public.”
