4月18日(土)よりカナダ・ブリティッシュコロンビア州リッチモンドのリッチモンド・アート・ギャラリーにて、SIDE COREによる展覧会「rode work ver. under city」を開催しております。

本展はSIDE COREの北米初の個展となります。ショーン・デイシーがキュレーションを手がけ、2026 Capture Photography Festival 展覧会プログラムの一環として開催されます。

現代アート、スケートカルチャー、都市インフラの境界を曖昧にするサイトスペシフィックなプロジェクトで知られる東京を拠点とするアーティスト・コレクティブ、SIDE COREは、高速道路や鉄道、排水トンネル、地下水路など、都市の見過ごされがちな空間を探求したビデオ作品と写真の選りすぐりの作品を展示します。

展覧会の中心となる、マルチチャンネルのビデオ・インスタレーション「rode work ver. under city」。スケート映像制作クルー「FESN（Far East Skate Network）」との共同制作により、東京の地下環境（雨水貯留槽、廃止された交通トンネル、保守用通路など）をスケーターが移動する様子を捉えています。これらの動きは、機能的な空間を表現の場へと変容させ、孤立した構造物を投機的な仮想地下都市へとつなぎ合わせます。

リッチモンドと同様、東京の多くも埋立地の上に築かれており、常に自然災害のリスクにさらされています。「rode work ver. under city」は、東京の治水システムの一部として建設された調整池で撮影されました。太平洋を隔てたふたつの都市は、地質的条件だけでなく、文化的・歴史的なつながりをも共有しています。このプロジェクトを通じて、SIDE COREは遠く離れた場所に存在する、目に見えないつながりを明らかにしようとしています。

SIDE CORE is presenting the exhibition “rode work ver. under city” at the Richmond Art Gallery in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, on view from April 18th.

This marks SIDE CORE’s first solo exhibition in North America. Curated by Shaun Dacey, the exhibition is presented as part of the 2026 Capture Photography Festival Selected Exhibition Program.

Known for site-specific projects that blur the boundaries between contemporary art, skate culture, and urban infrastructure, the Tokyo-based collective presents a selection of video works and photographs that explore the often-overlooked spaces of the city — from highways and railroads to drainage tunnels and underground waterways.

At the heart of the exhibition is rode work ver. under city, a multi-channel video installation. Created in collaboration with renowned skate film crew Far East Skate Network (FESN), the work captures skaters navigating Tokyo’s subterranean environments (including stormwater basins, disused transit tunnels, and maintenance corridors). These movements transform utilitarian spaces into expressive terrains, linking isolated structures into a speculative, virtual undercity.

Like Richmond, much of Tokyo is built on reclaimed land, and faces the constant risk of natural disasters. rode work ver. under city was shot in a regulating reservoir constructed as part of the city’s flood control system. Although Tokyo and Richmond are separated by the Pacific Ocean, they share geological conditions as well as cultural and historical connections. Through this project, SIDE CORE seeks to reveal the invisible links that exist between such distant places.
