3月21日(土)より香港のwamono artで SIDE COREによる展覧会「under city」を開催しております。
展覧会の中心テーマは「都市の地下空間」です。「under city」のために、SIDE COREは巨大な地下貯水池、使われなくなった浄水施設、廃墟となった地下鉄駅など、めったに立ち入ることのできない場所を撮影しました。近年の技術進歩により都市はますますデジタル化され「可視化」されていますが、多くの地下環境は未だ知られていないか、把握しにくいままです。この作品はスケーターがこれらの地下空間を移動する様子を追ったもので、それらを連続した映像に編集し、別々の場所を1つの仮想地下都市につなぎ合わせています。
このプロジェクトは、東京の地下を読み解く方法としてのスケートボード、地質学と災害対策、テクノロジーと都市理論、都市伝説とフィクションなど、複数の視点を融合させています。作品にはスケートボーダーの森田貴弘がスケートビデオ制作会社「FESN」を通じて出演し、スケート映像のディレクションも行っています。
wamono artは、香港の再開発された工業地帯で、現在も活発に使用されているウォンチュクハンの工業ビルにあります。展覧会期間中、アーティストは香港に滞在し、「under city」という概念を香港の都市環境そのものへと拡張した新作を制作予定です。

From Saturday, March 21, SIDE CORE will hold an exhibition at wamono art, titled “under city.”
The exhibition’s central theme is “urban underground spaces.” For “under city,” SIDE CORE filmed inaccessible sites such as massive underground reservoirs, disused water treatment facilities, and abandoned subway stations. While recent technological advances have made cities increasingly digitized and “visible,” many subterranean environments remain unknown or uncharted. The video work follows skaters moving through underground spaces. The continuous sequence is made of edited footage, weaving multiple sites into a single “virtual underground city.” The project brings together multiple lenses: skateboarding as a facet to Tokyo’s underground, alongside geology and disaster preparedness, technology and urban theory, as well as urban legends and fiction. Japanese street skater Takahiro Morita and skate video production company “FESN” collaborate by performing and directing skate sequences in this video work.
wamono art is located in an industrial building in Wong Chuk Hang, a redeveloped industrial area in Hong Kong that remains in current use. During the exhibition period, the artist will stay in Hong Kong to create a new work that expands “under city” into the Wong Chuk Hang’s own urban context.

SIDE CORE is an artist collective based in Tokyo. Active since 2012, the collective comprises Sakie Takasu, Tohru Matsushita, and Taishi Nishihiro, with Kazunori Harimoto participating as a video director. SIDE CORE focuses on unraveling rules in public spaces, facilitating shifts in thinking, intervening in overlooked spaces, and expanding expression and action through the lens of street culture. Their activities, both indoors and outdoors, center on the theme of “expanding expression in urban spaces.”
