5月8日(金)よりイタリア・ヴェネツィアのエスパス ルイ・ヴィトン ヴェネツィアにて、ルー・ヤンによる個展「DOKU The Illusion」を開催しております。

本展はクレール・スタブレーがキュレーションを手がけ、第61回 ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ 国際美術展と並行して開催されます。またエスパス ルイ・ヴィトン開設20周年、フォンダシオン ルイ・ヴィトンの「オール・レ・ミュール」プログラム10周年を記念するプログラムの一環でもあり、会期は2026年10月4日(日)までとなります。

仮想世界をイマーシブなビデオ・インスタレーションとして発表することで国際的なアートシーンに確固たる存在感を示すルー・ヤン。その想像上の宇宙はポスト・アポカリプス的な色調を帯びながら仏教哲学を根底に、夢と覚醒、幻想と目覚め、そして中観哲学における内在的本質への問いを探求します。この哲学的枠組みは、デジタル時代における現実の構造への広範な考察と交差しています。

本展のために制作された「DOKU The Illusion」は、ルー・ヤンが2019年に開始した野心的な物語プロジェクト「DOKU」シリーズの第4章となる映像作品です。DOKUとは、アーティスト自身の顔をデジタル化することで生み出された仮想キャラクターです。シリーズはこの多面的なアバターの孤独な冒険を描き、ルー・ヤンは肉体の限界を超え、デジタルな転生を通じて新たな自由の形を探求します。

エスパス ルイ・ヴィトン ヴェネツィアの空間は、礼拝堂と未来的な聖域の中間に位置するサイバネティックな聖所へと変貌します。その中心には、祭壇の上に設置された巨大なLEDスクリーンで映像作品「DOKU The Illusion」が映し出されます。日本・伊豆半島の深い青空と広大な景観を背景に展開する本作は、実写映像とAI生成映像を融合させた、一種のロードムービーです。

Lu Yang is presenting a solo exhibition, “DOKU The Illusion,” at the Espace Louis Vuitton Venezia in Venice, Italy, on view from May 8th to October 4th, 2026.

Curated by Claire Staebler, the exhibition is presented in parallel with the 61st International Art Exhibition — La Biennale di Venezia, and forms part of the programme marking the 20th anniversary of the Espaces Louis Vuitton and the 10th anniversary of the Fondation Louis Vuitton’s Hors-les-murs programme.

Lu Yang has established a strong presence on the international art scene through the creation of virtual worlds presented as immersive video installations. His imagined universes — often marked by post-apocalyptic undertones — are grounded in Buddhist philosophy, engaging concepts such as dreams and waking, illusion and awakening, and the Madhyamaka inquiry into intrinsic nature. This philosophical framework intersects with a broader investigation into the structure of reality in the digital age.

DOKU The Illusion is the fourth chapter in the DOKU series, an ambitious narrative project the artist began in 2019. DOKU is a virtual character based on the digitalisation of the artist’s own face. The series depicts the solitary adventures of this multifaceted avatar, through which Lu Yang transcends the limits of the physical body and explores new forms of freedom through digital reincarnation.

For this exhibition, Lu Yang transforms the Espace Louis Vuitton Venezia into a cybernetic sanctuary, situated somewhere between a chapel and a futuristic refuge. At its core, the film DOKU The Illusion is presented on a monumental LED screen placed on an altar. Blending live-action footage with AI-generated imagery, the work unfolds primarily against the deep-blue skies and expansive landscapes of Japan’s Izu Peninsula, forming a veritable road movie.
