PARCEL is pleased to participate in Frieze Seoul 2026, taking place at COEX, Seoul, from September 2–5, 2026. For the fair, we will present works by Tomonari Hashimoto, SIDE CORE, Hiraku Suzuki, Gensho Sugahara, and Zai Nomura.
Tomonari Hashimoto’s vertical ceramic and mortar sculpture stands as a weathered monolith, its oxidized surface and precise geometry evoking architectural fragments shaped by time, pressure, and human movement. The work quietly embodies the accumulation of time held within its material, while simultaneously questioning our assumptions about mass: what fragility evokes, and what weight evokes.
Ahead of My Way by SIDE CORE reconstructs the visual language of the construction site — barriers, warning lights, pipes, and other materials drawn directly from the street — assembling them into an installation that summons the city in a state of perpetual flux into the interior space. By displacing ordinarily functional and temporary construction materials from their context and reconsidering them as sculptural objects, the work brings the city’s noise, movement, and anonymous labour indoors.
Hiraku Suzuki’s practice is informed by what he calls “alternative archaeology” — excavating fragments of signs from our ever-changing environment and rearranging them as tube-like circuitry in space and time. For this presentation, he introduces The Writing of Meteors, a series of paintings made with lava stones, earth, and reflective silver ink, forming cosmic, language-like constellations that mirror the coded traces embedded in cityscapes.
Gensho Sugahara’s faceless, fashion-imposed figures stand as quiet observers, embodying the tension between individuality and uniformity found in metropolitan crowds. Having progressively expanded the scale of his work in recent years, Sugahara presents new large-scale works in this exhibition. Their overwhelming presence — anonymous yet unmistakably directed at the viewer — evokes a sense of being met by a steady, unwavering gaze.
Zai Nomura’s Today series streams footage from CCTV cameras in operation around the world across three LED monitors, presenting records of people captured from the present day. Equipped with a counter tracking the number of times each video has been played, the work confronts moments that will never repeat — a diary-like record of the artist’s encounters with the world — revealing the fragile, anonymous exchanges that define contemporary life.
While Suzuki’s traces across time and space and Hashimoto’s sculptural stillness evoke the depth held within material, SIDE CORE brings the city’s perpetual transformation and the site of anonymous labour directly into the fair. Sugahara’s large-scale figures quietly pose the question of anonymity within the crowd, while Nomura confronts the irreversible singularity of today through CCTV footage. Departing from the shared field of the city, this presentation of five artists with PARCEL offers a layered portrait of contemporary existence, where time, body, labour, and memory are constantly rewritten.

Tomonari Hashimoto (b. 1990, Wakayama) lives and works in Shigaraki. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Kyoto University of Education in 2012, completed the Ceramic Arts Course in the Graduate School of Fine Arts at Kanazawa College of Art in 2014, and completed the doctoral program in the Ceramic Arts field at the same institution in 2017. Perceiving space itself as an installation, Hashimoto presents geometric scenes of rectangular forms exceeding two meters in length and spheres.
Active since 2012 and based in Tokyo. Members are Sakie Takasu, Tohru Matsushita, and Taishi Nishihiro, with Kazunori Harimoto participating as a video director. Grounded in the ideas and histories of street culture, their practice is driven by the question of how individuals can communicate within urban and public spaces. Working at times as a project that incorporates collaborators from other fields, they develop diverse works in the blind spots and overlooked gaps of the city.
Hiraku Suzuki |
Hiraku Suzuki (b. 1978, Miyagi) lives and works in Tokyo. He completed his MFA at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2008. His intermedia approach is informed by excavating fragments of signs from our ever-changing environment and rearranging them to generate tube-like circuitry in space and time — a method he describes as “alternative archaeology.” By archiving and reworking various forms and lines emerging from cave murals, music notations, urban traffic, plants, minerals, and cosmic phenomena, Suzuki continues to expand the field of drawing.
Gensho Sugahara |
Gensho Sugahara (b. 1993, Tokyo) graduated from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo Zokei University in 2016 and completed his MFA in Fine Arts from the same institution in 2018. Working under the theme of texture and tactility, he employs FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic) and clay as his primary materials. His sculptures, defined by subtle tactility and anonymity, model the contemporary human body as it becomes increasingly symbolized through consumerist fashion. Through these forms, Sugahara’s work traces the shifting surfaces of present society and its lack of grounding in tangible reality.
Zai Nomura|野村在
Zai Nomura (b. 1979, Kobe) lives and works in New York and Kobe. He received his MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London in 2009, and completed his PhD in Fine Arts at Musashino Art University, Tokyo in 2013. Using diverse media such as sculpture, photography, mechanical devices, and performance, and combining contrasting materials, Nomura visualizes the lingering presence of those who have passed, still remaining in one’s memory, expressing the fragility and certainty of life, as well as the conflicting emotions of the sorrow of absence and the preciousness of existence.
